This week I learned about video editing and tools to enhance video for our learners, and I also acquired information about SCORM. Video editing is the method of taking a video clip or multiple clips and adjusting the original to create new media. Something that almost anyone can do with the right software and video or a recorded video. There is an infinite number of video-editing tools one can purchase or download for free. Some examples include Windows Movie Maker, iMovie, Adobe Premiere Elements, which is one that I really wanted to get as the Youtube video provided to us on Blackboard by Fstoppers made it look awesome but fail to mention the price tag it came along with it. However, I did download Camtasia, which comes with a free trial. I am excited to try it out. I very much enjoy making videos. Our district has encouraged us to use Screencastify as we are teaching digitally, and it is a great tool. I have used Screencast-O-Matics and basic video from my device, but adding graphics to videos makes it much more appealing. There is much more to video editing but, by working with video-editing software and using available tutorials, one can edit videos like a pro.

Because video engages students visually and auditorily, educators can reach students with a variety of learning styles. The more engaged students are, the more they will enjoy the lesson and retain concepts. You can find a variety of videos on any subject imaginable online on sites such as YouTube, TeacherTube, or TED.com.

SCORM is short for Shareable Content Object Reference Model. It’s a set of technical standards for packaging and presenting content in an eLearning platform.
